47) Maui, Hawaii - 7th December

We know that we are lucky.

This could be just the worst shit time that anyone could experience but it is not.
Leigh-Ann does not complain and adapts to everything that is happening: medicines, wheelchair, vomiting, not eating, losing weight, and dying.
Arriving in Maui
She stays happy. Leigh-Ann really is enjoying her time, every moment. She is a joy to push around Maui in a wheelchair in 32c heat...

She knows that if she didn't have cancer we would not be in this Pacific Ocean paradise.

I am also lucky. I have Leigh-Ann. I also have great staff in my business that I trust and allow me to take all this time off whilst they get on with it. Brilliant.

We are also lucky because we have the resources to travel and make the most of the rest of Leigh-Ann's life whether it is weeks, months or more.

We arrived last night, caught a cab to the resort and checked in to our hotel condo.

Saying goodbye to Ollie and Emily was hard, partly because we will miss them both and partly because it meant that we were on our own to tackle Vancouver airport with a wheelchair, hand luggage and a suitcase!

Air Canada staff were great. Helpful and generous. We even got free meals in economy because they only accept credit cards for payment and only had cash and debit cards. A six-hour flight without food would be a challenge for me.

Maui is a paradise resort island. It is sophisticated, lush, quiet and the weather is perfect but not for running at 1:00pm!

Quote of the day: "I am so happy, I could cry!", Leigh-Ann Wood, 7th December 2013.

The major issue we have is that we forgot one of Leigh-Ann's medications. It was a real mix up with her new prescription and we thought that we had it but we do not.

It is an anti-vomit medication and quite important but pharmacies here do not accept a prescription from Canada. It has to come from an American doctor. Leigh-Ann does not want to spend the money on an appointment with a Doctor and then for the prescription so we will see how we go without it.

So far, so good.

The funniest thing that happened today was that a bird flew into the condo to eat
Leigh-Ann's lunch whilst she was Skyping with Sarah and Earla. That is Earla's lovely laugh in the background.

The sun is setting now and we are going to visit the Activities Concierge because
Leigh-Ann wants to take a helicopter ride over around the island. Happy dayz!
